Physical Education

At Corpus Christi, students participate in a structured Physical Education (PE) program aligned with the Victorian Curriculum. Junior students focus on developing fundamental movement skills that form the building blocks for all future sporting and physical activities. As students move into the middle years, they begin applying these foundations in more complex ways. They refine skills such as throwing and catching with accuracy, striking, dodging, teamwork, basic game strategies and movement in small-sided games. In the senior years, students engage with a wider range of sports, learning detailed rules, techniques and strategies, further developing fitness and gaining a deeper understanding of the lifelong benefits of staying active.
Each year, students in Years 3 – 6 can take part in trials for Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. Those who are successful represent Corpus Christi at the Werribee District events, with the opportunity to progress to division, regional and state level competitions. The Physical Education teacher conducts trials for these events, selecting students based on their skills, effort and readiness to proudly represent Corpus Christi.
School Sport Victoria gives talented students the opportunity to compete in sports from local to national levels and connect with community pathways. As part of School Sport Australia, students can represent Victoria as part of ‘Team Vic’ at national championships. To register your child for Team Vic trials, please visit the School Sport Victoria website. More information about the selection process can be found at SSV Team Vic
Sport teaches resilience, respect, teamwork and the value of being part of something bigger. We celebrate participation as much as performance, encouraging students to play with purpose, support their teammates and give their best in training, competition and everyday conduct.
Currently, our Year 6 students participate in Winter Sports during Term 2. Available sports include AFL 9s, Teeball, Netball, Basketball, Lacrosse and Hockey, though the exact offerings may vary slightly each year depending on district planning and what works best for our school. Students along with their coaches (Corpus Christi staff), train for one hour each week in Term 2 in the lead up to the Gala Day.
Teams that perform strongly at Gala Days may progress to division and regional competitions, giving students the chance to showcase their skills, embrace new challenges and represent Corpus Christi with pride. These pathways celebrate achievement and inspire excellence across the school community.
Language Other Than English – Italian
Italian is a skills-based curriculum area. Classes are an hour in duration from Foundation to Yr. 6, on a fortnightly basis, throughout the school year.
Students learn how to speak, read, spell and write basic words and phrases in Italian. They are also taught formal grammatical skills, through a range of varied activities, including but not limited to interactive learning games, songs, nursery rhymes, folktales, etc. Through learning Italian our students learn about cultural differences and similarities associated with a language other than English. They understand and make connections with everyday life, their own cultural background, and how cultures are influenced and enhanced, whilst embracing the multiculturalism of Australia.
Learning an additional language strengthens and enhances creative and critical thinking. It also develops new perspectives and helps our students to learn and to live as part of a global community.
Computer Science Investigations (CSI)
Students are immersed in a technology rich environment that supports learning and develops their ability to think critically and creatively in a meaningful context. All students participate in CSI classes where they investigate Digital Technologies and STEM based activities with a Specialist teacher.

Performing Arts
Performing Arts, at Corpus Christi, is taught from Prep to Year 6 in a varied and well-resourced program on a fortnightly basis. Students explore and develop an understanding of the elements of music, music conventions and music styles. They are provided with opportunities to be imaginative and expressive and learn in a collaborative environment where each student is able to create, compose and perform. Students are also given opportunities to reflect on and respond to their own and others’ works.
Visual Arts
Students are introduced to varied media and techniques covering four units. Each one designed to develop a series of skills and techniques: Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media and Modelling. Each year the work is scaffolded to build on what has been covered previously whilst, at the same time, children are learning new skills and techniques.
