At Corpus Christi, Religious Education is at the heart of our Catholic learning community. Guided by the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools Religious Education Curriculum Framework (2018), our Religious Education program invites students to explore the Catholic tradition, deepen their understanding of faith and reflect on how the message of the Gospel can shape their everyday lives.
Our school community seeks to live out its Catholic identity through the person and teachings of Jesus Christ. As expressed in our vision and mission, we continue the Spirit-filled legacy of
Mary MacKillop, whose courage, compassion and commitment to justice inspire our community. We encourage students to recognise that they are part of the Body of Christ and are called to live the Gospel values of justice, integrity, respect and dignity.
Through Religious Education, students are supported to develop their understanding of:
- Scripture, prayer and Catholic tradition
- The Sacraments and the liturgical year
- Catholic Social Teaching and social justice
- Their own faith journey and sense of purpose
Our approach embraces recontextualisation, encouraging students to explore the Catholic tradition in conversation with the world around them. Students are invited to ask questions, think critically and consider how faith can guide their decisions, relationships and actions.
Religious Education at Corpus Christi includes opportunities for students to experience faith in a variety of ways, including:
- Whole-school and class liturgies and prayer experiences
- Sacramental preparation for Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation
- Celebrating important Church seasons such as Lent and Easter
- Reflection, service and opportunities to put faith into action
Living out the principles of Catholic Social Teaching is an important part of school life at Corpus Christi. Students learn about the dignity of every person, care for our common home and the importance of standing in solidarity with others. These values are reflected in our learning, relationships and service to the wider community.
Examples of Catholic Social Teaching in action at Corpus Christi include:
- Fundraising and learning through Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion
- Supporting the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society and Catholic Mission
- Strengthening our connection with St Andrew’s Parish Werribee
Religious Education at Corpus Christi is enriched by our partnership with our parish and the active faith life of our school community. Together we strive to nurture students who grow in faith, show compassion for others and live the Gospel through their words and actions.
